Valerie has spent her 35+ year career working in the accounting field for the private sector. She spent a number of those years in the accounting software business, providing classroom training, on-site implementations, and ongoing support for several different software companies. Over the past ten years, she has spent her off hours writing fiction.
In addition to her analytical side, Valerie is the published author of four novels. She is a certified copyeditor, and trained developmental editor, and is fluent in The Chicago Manual of Style, Associated Press Style Guide, and APA Publication Manual. Valerie has been on the board of directors of the Atlanta Writers Club for the past decade. During that time she held various board positions, including Operations Manager, Treasurer, VP of Programming, and President. The AWC was established in 1914, and its membership has grown to more than a thousand.
Valerie Connors has spent the past twenty-five years in the architecture, engineering, and construction industry. She has held executive positions for fifteen of those years, most recently as the CFO of an Atlanta engineering firm. Prior to that her roles included controller, accounting manager, and accounting software consultant.
During her many years in the AEC industry, Valerie has gained significant experience using Deltek Vision software and has implemented the system in a number of firms. Several of those implementations included data migration, user training, and ongoing support.
This guest post was published in 2015 during the launch of A Promise Made, which was inspired by my mother's experiences as a young woman. It's about a poem I found that she had written in 1949.
